Pin Galaxy
Every pin, placed by what it looks like: pins that look alike end up as neighbors, so cats gather with cats and Kempers with Kempers. Scroll or pinch to zoom, drag to fly around, click a pin to open it.
How this map is made
A pin's place here comes only from its pictures, not from its name, tags, price or year. Every photo we have of each pin goes in, 12,159 in all:
- 2,351 photos people have submitted on this site, through photo search and Add Photos. Each one is checked by a person before it counts.
- 7,987 photos from verified eBay and Mercari listings.
- 1,821 catalog pictures, one for each pin.
Each photo is run through the same image-recognition model that powers photo search, which turns a picture into a long list of numbers describing what it looks like: shapes, colors, faces, text. A pin's description blends its catalog picture with the average of all its other photos, so one blurry listing photo can't drag it off course.
The map then lays those descriptions out flat so that pins with similar descriptions sit close together. What matters is who a pin's neighbors are. How far apart two separate islands sit means very little. Pins are nudged apart a little so none hide behind another.
Every outline is a pocket of pins that look alike. The ones with a solid border and a name also share a theme: at least half the pins inside have it. Dashed pockets look alike without a theme in common, so they're left unnamed rather than given a name most of their pins don't fit. Click a name to focus on that group.
Glow adds a layer of real data on top: a pin's tier, its year, or its price.
The map is rebuilt every night, so new pins and photos find their place within a day. Last built Oct 9, 2026. Every photo you add sharpens this map and photo search with it.
